Project Overview

SNEHA has been implementing the Targeted Intervention (TI) Project since November 1, 2001, focusing on Female Sex Workers (FSWs). Initially covering both FSWs and MSMs, it now exclusively focuses on FSWs across four sites in Vadakara and Koyilandi Taluks, targeting approximately 800 FSWs.

Key Objectives

Contribute to the national goal of halting and reversing the HIV/AIDS epidemic among FSWs in Kozhikode district, Kerala.
Overall Goal Progress 85%

Strategies Adopted

  • Peer-led outreach and communication using Behavior Change Communication (BCC) tools.
  • STI management via:
    • Static clinic services
    • Public-Private Partnership (PPP)
  • Linkages with government/private healthcare for HIV & syphilis testing.
  • Condom distribution through free distribution, social marketing, and commercial outlets.
  • Advocacy & crisis intervention for an enabling environment.
  • Community mobilization via events and committees.

Main Outcomes Achieved

100% awareness among sex workers on STD/HIV/AIDS (up from 80%).
100% STI checkups (previously 80%).
100% Routine Medical Checkups (RMC) (increased from 80%).
100% correct and consistent condom usage among sex workers.
Greater participation from key stakeholders, including local leaders, government officials, police, and community organizations.

Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Daily & weekly reports analyzed at the project and NGO level.
  • Monthly consolidated reports sent to KSACS/Technical Support Unit (TSU).
